More Info
Mailing List:
The mailing list is where the most current information is shared, since climb dates/locations sometimes change at short notice.
To join our email list, get reminders and chat with others, send an email to: bayareatreeclimbing+subscribe@groups.io
Very low volume and all are welcome!
RSVP Climbs:
To join an RSVP-only climb, please join the mailing list (see above) and RSVP with the Climb Coordinator for more information.
These locations often have restrictions on the number of climbers/vehicles or may require other pre-event coordination.
Theme Climbs:
Theme climbs were started in 2023, and intended to highlight or focus on a certain aspect of tree climbing. You're welcome to ignore the theme and climb as normal.
2023 themes included rescue practice, tyrolean traverses, mechanical advantage, SRT ground anchors.
CLIMBING COORDINATORS NEEDED!
If you would like to suggest a location, please contact. Coordinators are just individuals who gather and the information needed for climbers to arrive at the same place at the same time.
As with all climbers present, they are not responsible for the safety of individual climbers.
Risk
Please climb safely. On-rope climbing only. A serious accident could jeopardize our ability to climb in these locations. Consider that the risks you might be willing to take on your own time may not be appropriate for these events, and act accordingly.
By state law, tree climbing is an inherently hazardous recreational activity. You are responsible for your own safety and performing your own independent risk assessment. Any event organizers are not responsible or liable for your safety at these climbs.
This is just friendly like-minded folks enjoying the outdoors together. Practicing tree climbing in around others reduces some types of risks while increasing others.
Please consider if your climbing experience is appropriate for climbing location, trees, group, theme, etc. Please supervise minors at all times.
No one is keeping an eye on you or managing risk for you. No one is assessing the skill, abilities and experience of other climbers. Make your own risk assessments, make good choices - mind your safety and have fun!
New to Climbing?
Newer climbers welcome - this is an opportunity to practice your skills in a setting with other climbers.
Please bring your own equipment and know how to use it properly. If you do not have your own equipment, come on by and chat to learn more about the activity of tree climbing (and someone will probably help you get your first experience on rope).
Some climbers are willing to temporarily lend a piece of equipment or two for an experienced climber to try out. Use this equipment, and associated climbing methods at your own risk!
Please Respect Our Neighbors
Climbing sites are often located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Please respect the neighbors - park mindfully, pick up after yourself, minimize excessive noise, and be ambassadors for our young sport!
If you chose to climb at one of these locations outside of the above dates/times, please keep these guidelines in mind so that our group will continue to have a good relationship with the neighbors.
REMEMBER: It is the responsibility of every tree climber to make sure the non-tree climbing public doesn't become the anti-tree climbing public.
Rock Respect has some guidelines which will help us maintain access to quality climbing areas.
Site
This site is maintained by Sam as a courtesy to the community so that climbers end up at the same place at the same time. If you see any errors or would like an event to be added to the list, please send me a message.
